The MLB Company (http://www.spyplanes.com) worked with its partners in the National Consortium for Remote Sensing in Transportation - Flows (NCRST-F) through extensive experiments flown in Columbus, Ohio. Two half-days of flights were geared toward operating under conditions approaching those of realistic traffic operations. The Bat was used to monitor traffic at a freeway interchange, collect intersection turning movements, track vehicle paths through a small network or surface streets, and determine parking lot utilization. In addition to collecting the transportation data of interest, the team had to negotiate the regulatory environment governing flights in this urbanized environment. The Consortium successfully worked with the FAA and the many heliports in the area during the data collection experiments.
